What song did you walk up the aisle to?

  • Groom entrance – “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” by Elton John (The Lion King Movie Soundtrack)
  • Bride entrance – “Who Is She” by Patrick Doyle (Cinderella Movie Soundtrack)
  • Exit song – “The Wedding” by Alan Menken (Aladdin Movie Soundtrack)

Q. Why did you choose Allely Estate as your Wedding venue?

The top priority for us was a dog-friendly venue! It was important that our family dog Joy, was part of my special day. We searched nearly all wedding venues across Auckland, and enquired about dogs. There were a number of places that were dog-friendly for an outdoor ceremony, but were not allowed indoors for the reception. Then I came across Allely Estate that was dog-friendly for the whole venue, and happened to be exactly what I was looking for – a picturesque garden and a beautiful building! The Marquee as a back up in case of rain was also a bonus!

Q. Did you have a theme or vibe?

We both love Disney so we decided to go for a subtle Disney theme that wasn’t too obvious or overpowering. All the songs on our playlist were Disney songs that we chose ourselves. The colour palette for the flowers were pastel colours including pink, blue, purple, yellow, green, and white. We also used white tulle fabric to decorate the aisle. We tried to go for a dreamy, fairytale look to give subtle Disney vibes and were really happy with the outcome. Fortunately, the garden and the building at Allely Estate was a perfect match for our classic, Disney theme!

Q. Did you incorporate any tradition?

Our families both come from South Korea, and both mothers from each side of the family wore a traditional Korean dress called Hanbok. Traditionally, the mother of the groom wears a blue Hanbok and the mother of the bride wears a red Hanbok. Nowadays we still keep this tradition but go for more smooth colours like light blue and pink. Both our mothers wore beautiful blue and pink Hanbok on the day.

Q. What was your best decision about the wedding?

Having our wedding at Allely Estate!

Q. What advice do you have for other couples?

Don’t stress on the day, and just go with the flow. The team at Allely Estate will really look after you. Enjoy all the moments and make sure to be glued to your partner for the entire day, as your wedding is about both of you as a married couple!

Q. How did you both meet? What is your personal 'love story'?

A couple of friends organised a social get-together to hang out one day, where we first met. It was quite a big group of people so we didn’t really get a chance to get to know each other that day. Sungchul gave me his number, but I didn’t have any intention to reach out to him back then! A couple of weeks later we crossed paths again at a bar, and my friend I was with that day was a mutual friend of us. We began texting from that day, and my friend admitted that she had taken frequent and longer trips to the ‘bathroom’ to set us up!

Q. Tell us about your favourite wedding moment?

Yeri – when Olaf (my friend in an Olaf costume) entered the reception to congratulate our marriage! Olaf sang “When I Am Older” (Frozen Soundtrack) and also danced for us! The story about this is that I asked my friend if she could sing a wedding song for us during the reception. I hadn’t told anyone about the Disney theme, but coincidentally she came back to me to tell me that she chose the song “When I Am Older” to sing to, and asked permission to dress up as Olaf for this. I was stunned at the coincidence because it was a perfect match with our Disney theme! Sungchul – when we had our sparkler exit in the dark. It was visually satisfying and it felt like everyone came together to wish the best for us.

Q. What special touches were important to you?

Melissa and the team at Allely Estate really made the day run so smoothly and stress-free for us. There were absolutely no delays on the day and everything ran perfectly as planned and scheduled. Melissa also took care of all the details and checked in with us when needed. She and the team also assembled the doughnut cake for us, and Melissa even looked after our dog Joy during dinner time so that our family could focus on eating!

Q. Any further comments?

Thank you so much Allely Estate, for going above and beyond to make our special day so magical!
