We always love it when we see Lisa Zidich from Event Styling Co is styling a wedding at Allely Estate – she always does an impeccable job and no set-up looks the same! From tropical floral vibes to jungle-inspired to classic and pared-back elegance, Lisa and the team know how to bring total wow factor to a reception. We asked her to share her advice on the dos and don’ts of styling, as well as hot trends to look out for.
Q. How long have you been a wedding stylist?
Almost 7 years.
Q. What do you think couples should always consider when it comes to styling their wedding?
The time it takes to create or set up decorations. Doing the DIY option is great but often people underestimate how much time is involved in set-up and pack down later that night or the next day. My advice: leave it to the professionals so you are not stressed out setting up on the day or having to come back early the next morning to pack everything up.
Q. Tell us what your job involves:
The first thing is understanding the client’s vision for how their wedding will look and putting the vision together to make a cohesive design that is both practical and beautiful. Then we pull all aspects together into a quote within their budget. As well as set-up on the day, I also design custom-made items and installations.
Q. What do you think is more important: styling the ceremony or the reception?
For me it’s all about decorating the reception as this is where the celebrations happen and most of the time is spent. It’s where so many great photos are taken of candid, happy moments and where the true celebration and partying happens. During the ceremony I think all eyes are on the couple and focus is more on the emotion of the ceremony rather than the décor.
Q. What has been your most memorable wedding at Allely Estate?
I love themed weddings where we create custom lighting or something unique. The couple who had the ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ theme was a very memorable one – we created hanging greenery and fairy lights to hang all the way down the centreline of the ceiling in the marquee. It looked so magical at night
Q. Cool styling tricks or ideas you've seen recently?
Cane peacock chairs are very popular for the bride and groom to sit at and make for great photos!
Q. What's your favourite thing about styling weddings?
Creating something beautiful for couples that they will look back on and still love years down the track. Seeing the wedding photos afterwards is always a highlight and makes me feel proud to have been part of making their day perfect.
Q. What tip do you always share with couples?
Having games set up outside is a great ice-breaker for guests to get to know each other and mingle. They also keep guests entertained while you are having photos taken. Think giant versions of chess, Jenga & connect 4 and classic lawn games like corn hole, petanque and lawn croquet.
Q. What do you think gives a big bang for buck when it comes to styling?
Lighting is SO important and really gives that wow factor to an indoor venue or outside area. It makes for such a stunning photo, having couples dancing under a canopy of twinkling lights.
Q. What do you think every wedding at Allely Estate should have?
Draping and lighting in the marquee – it really gives it such a romantic and intimate feel. It also looks especially beautiful at night and in photos.
